Santa Monica’s Stairways to Heaven

There are two famous stairways that go from Santa Monica to Los Angeles (Santa Monica Canyon). One is called the “7th Street stairway” and it starts across from 526 Adelaide Drive and goes down to Entrada Drive, across from Amalfi Drive. It has 152 wooden steps and 18 concrete steps in a straight line, about 5.5 feet wide, with three landings in between. Overall, there are 170 steps that cover a vertical change of about 110 feet. The second stairway is called the “4th Street stairway” and it starts at the intersection of 4th Street and Adelaide, leading down to Ocean Avenue Extension.
