Every October, Irvine celebrates its cultural diversity with the Irvine Global Village Festival at the Orange County Great Park, featuring exhibits, entertainment, and foods from around the world. Additionally, the Irvine Community Television (ICTV) offers local news, sports, arts, and culture programming, broadcasting on Cox Communications channel 30 and online with the motto “For You, About You”. Irvine is also home to three public libraries: Heritage Park Regional Library, known for its business and art resources; University Park Library with an extensive collection, including Chinese books; and Katie Wheeler Library, a replica of the house once owned by James Irvine’s granddaughter. Furthermore, most UCI Libraries welcome the general public.

The Annual Festival: Irvine Global Village Festival
In 1988, residents initiated the City’s first Multicultural Festival to foster cultural understanding. After a successful second edition in 2000, it expanded and, by 2002, had rebranded as the Irvine Global Village Festival, attracting around 4,000 visitors at the Irvine Civic Center. This event’s founding members formed the Irvine Multicultural Association to oversee its growth. 2021 marked the City of Irvine’s 50th anniversary and the festival’s 20th year, winning the 2021 California Park & Recreation Society Award of Excellence. The festival had previously received accolades, including the National League of Cities’ Cultural Diversity Award in 2012 and “Best Festival” by OC Weekly in 2009. Today, the festival is the City’s hallmark event, celebrating its diverse community with performances, global cuisines, kids’ activities, cultural exhibits, and a global marketplace.
